Dr Choi is a Consultant Haematologist at The Canberra Hospital and Clinical Director of the National Platelet Research and Referral Centre, Canberra. He is an editor of the international journal Platelets, and co-chair of the Scientific Subcommittee on Platelet Immunology at the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis. Dr Choi is a member of the National Blood Authority lmmunoglobulin Governance Specialist Working Group for Haematology, he is on the Clinical Trials Subcommittee of the Human Research and Ethics Committee ACT Health, and faculty member/expert panellist at numerous national conferences and international conferences.
Dr Choi was Bob Pitney Fellow in Haematology at St George Hospital, Sydney in 2010, and recipient of the RCPA Kanematsu/Novo Nordisk Award in 2014, after training in haematology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Concord General Repatriation Hospital in Sydney, Australia.
Dr Choi’s PhD at UNSW focused on immune-mediated platelet disorders including ITP and heparin induced thrombocytopenia.
His work has included clinical research using novel combinations of immunosuppression for ITP, and basic research into the pathogenic determinants of heparin/PF4 antibodies. This research has uncovered novel findings that provide insight into the differences between non-pathogenic and pathogenic antibodies.
